Our Selections and Upgrades

It's hard to keep everything straight because we weren't as concerned with elevation and the exterior of the home as we were with the inside. We are homebodies and it's important for us to have our home reflect us, our personalities, and our personal taste, so we did a lot of research beforehand, toured a lot of model homes to scope out current designs (even in California), and of course, read a lot of design blogs and pinterest pages to get a good idea of where we wanted to go with this house.

Rebecca was our rep at the design center (Mt. Airy location) and she couldn't have been more patient with us during the entire process. They clear out a 4 hour space for buyers, but we needed only about 2 hours because we had a strong idea of what we wanted and didn't waste too much time waffling back and forth. I think our biggest struggle probably had to be flooring. It's just not easy to visualize how flooring will look with paint and furniture, and of course, your hands are kind of tied because the good stuff is ALWAYS much more expensive than the standard options.

If there's something you want and it's not offered, be sure to ask, ask, ask. Be aggressive about it. Ask them if they are rolling out any new design choices--we were able to get cabinets that were not even in the brochure because the brochures offered in the center aren't as up to date as the digital copies that they have.

(I will update this as I gather more information. Unfortunately, most of our paperwork is being held with our household goods, so I don't have the full documents at my disposal right now)

Upgrades in bolded red

Exterior
John Jacob Astor, rec room (basement) level entry with rear two car garage.
Elevation D with brick front
End Unit
10 ft extension on all levels
Basic landscaping
2 car garage with two openers, and outdoor keypad included

Interior

Rec Room
Fully finished with full bath
Flooring: Kimona Silk Morning Dove tile 12x24, staggerd, throughout the entire level, including the bath, rec room, entry and foyer (this is originally just a rec room option, but considered an upgrade since we used tile from the rec room extended into the bathrooms.)

**Note: Due to a delayed quote and unexpected cost (read: we didn't want to pay lol), we decided to scrap the plan for all tile throughout the rec room level, and go with level A engineered hardwood throughout. We gave the design center permission to pick out the color that will closely match our oak wood, so more information and hopefully pictures to come soon.**
